      <image:title>Postnatal Check</image:title>
      <image:caption>A Postnatal Check is an individualized physiotherapy assessment of the tummy and pelvic floor muscles for postnatal women of every stage and age. The pelvic floor and tummy or muscles are part of your “core ” which is responsible for stability around the spine and pelvis. When functioning properly you can prevent pelvic organ prolapse, bladder, bowel and sexual issues, and lower back and pelvic girdle pain. Your assessment will involve a full musculoskeletal assessment of your posture and pelvis, breathing, tummy muscles and pelvic floor function. If necessary, an internal vaginal assessment may also be performed. When should I get my postnatal check? You can have a postnatal check as soon as you feel comfortable after having your baby. For those who may be worried about certain symptoms don’t hesitate to come in sooner rather than later as any advice will be helpful. Generally 6 weeks postnatal is considered a good time to come in as this coincides with your GP appointment, however you can come in sooner especially if you are worried about any symptoms such as incontinence, lower back pain or heaviness in the vagina. Remember though, it is never too early or late to start looking after your pelvic floor. Postnatal checks can be many years after the delivery of your child!</image:caption>
